Building / Construction Estimator

Cairns, QLD | Full-time | $90,000 - $135,000 including Superannuation

Freedom Constructions is looking for an estimator to run our tender process end to end, working directly with the Managing Director on pricing strategy and margins.

This isn't a seat in an estimating department, it's the estimating role. Your pricing calls shape the business, and you'll have the mandate to build our estimating systems and cost data into something you're proud to run.

Who we are

Freedom Constructions is a family-owned Cairns builder, operating since 2015 across government, commercial and residential projects: office fit-outs, refurbishments, and custom builds throughout Far North Queensland. We're a national award-winning Master Builders company and hold triple ISO certification (quality, environment, safety), which is rare for a builder our size and it matters to the clients we work with.

We're a small, tight team that backs each other. No corporate layers, no politics, and your ideas actually change how we do things.

What you'll do

• Prepare tenders, quotes and variations across government and commercial projects
• Review plans and specs to nail down scope, clarify exclusions and find opportunities others miss
• Work directly with subcontractors and suppliers to lock in competitive, well-defined pricing
• Conduct site visits and develop detailed scopes of work
• Sit at the table with the Managing Director on pricing strategy and margin decisions
• Build and refine our estimating systems and historical cost database

What you'll bring

Proven experience estimating, quoting and ideally tender writing, plus the ability to read and interpret plans. That's the core of it.

The rest is a bonus, not a barrier:

• Buildsoft Cubit, Wunderbuild, MS Project, MS Office or Google Workspace experience
• Commercial and/or government project background
• Driver's Licence and White Card
• Cert IV in Building and Construction (Estimating), Cert III in Carpentry, or a degree in construction management, quantity surveying or project management
• Design or contracts administration background

The salary range is wide on purpose. Where you land in it depends on what you bring, and we'll pay above it for the right person.
